Most cities’ websites concentrate on giving us updates on minutes from meetings, how to contact staff, and tips like “Be Water Wise.”
The city of Sierra Vista, with 45,000 residents, in southeastern Arizona, has designed a website for information about the area’s water issues that goes far beyond the normal city’s site.
On it, you can learn about what the city is doing to protect its water sources, and it provides in-depth information for residents, researchers, legislators, the media, and anyone else interested in the city’s unique water issues.
With everything from hydrological reports, progress reports, overall watershed information, and an extensive glossary of water terms, the site is packed with information. Clicking through, you find games for kids or tips for residential conservation through the University of Arizona Cooperative Extension for Cochise County or the Arizona Department of Water Resources. Much of the information is presented through graphics and animation.
Even folks who don’t reside in Sierra Vista but who are interested in water conservation, energy-efficient, green living or green design will find lots of information on the site.
